The Martian Manhunter backup story is also just top notch. Couple that with truly outstanding art and a warm color palette and it's honestly one of the better issues of the arc overall. It's through this that, even in this extremely bleak story, the hope that is so fundamental to Superman shines through like a beacon. But the issue also spends much of its time sharing those observations through a journal entry by Clark and it's that writing that reveals that even in this horrific nightmare of a setting, the heart of the character remains true. That is, generally, the thrust of the issue. It's a position that allows them to see a side of Warworld they didn't know existed and, arguably, helps them begin to form a plan to survive and escape. The issue largely sees Superman and the remaining members of the Authority dealing with being enslaved on Warworld. I am admittedly not a huge fan of "The Warworld Saga" arc, but even though it's not my cup of tea I can recognize just how solid Philip Kennedy Johnson's writing is this issue and just how well he understands Clark Kent.
